    Six Weeks!

    February 28th, 2010 by Matt

Connor is 6 weeks old now and time is flying! He is starting to smile which is great! Beth got a huge smile after Connor decided to poop all over the changing table and spit up in his crib at 6:30 this morning. The smiles should start coming more regularly but in the meantime I’ve posted a few videos and new photos.

    Well… What’s Next?!

    February 21st, 2010 by Matt

Yesterday started out to be a great day! Kiley was starting to be her lovable self and Team Saip was actually able to clean the house. We also got Ella hooked on the tv show Full House. It’s always great to relive your childhood thru your kids!

We decided to clean the house and then get the kids in the car so they could all nap at the same time. We ate lunch around two, took showers, got ready and were out the door by 4pm. We ran to the cleaners, Childrens Place, Gymboree (got Conman an awesome outfit) and Old Navy (got a retro U of I T-Shirt).

Before going into Old Navy, I started to not feel well. My stomach was stating to feel heavy and I didn’t like it. It wasn’t the same feeling when my acid reflux acts up. So, we were going to run a few more errands but I got increasingly worried about how nauseous I was getting. Connor also wasn’t doing well as he was super cranky because he was hungry. So, instead of going to the closer Wal-Mart I said we would head to the one past our house in hopes that Connor would go back to sleep, Kiley would go back to sleep and I would be ok to actually go to the store.

We ended up going to Wal-Mart and Beth ran in with a covered Connor to keep him sleeping. He’s they type to need movement when sleeping in the car seat. So, the girls and I waited in the parking lot, Beth was super quick and we were home around 6ish. On the way home, Beth started to feel the same way I was feeling. That’s when the fun began!

I was the first to actually “get sick” in the bathroom and it continued off and on until 10:30ish. Beth was able to atleast put away the frozen goods and feed the girls before she was out of commision. It was interesting trying to get the girls to bed and WE ARE EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT Connor was really content in his swing till after I was done being with the porcelain god most of the night. He was in there for a good 3-4 hours either looking around or sleeping. We were shocked as we didn’t know what we were going to do.

We have ruled it to be Food Poisoning from lunch. We had eaten our left overs from Friday night – Sweet and Sour Chicken. We think the Chicken was under cooked and I didn’t eat a whole lot of it the night before because I love me some Crab Rangoon. I did however eat a good portion for lunch and Beth had a couple pieces.

We survived the night and have been up with Connor off and on. We actually were up from 1-2am trying to comprehend what we were just put through. It was BRUTAL!

I’m not sure what else we can be tested with! It’s not everyday you hear about a family of 5 going thru what we have been thru with the 3 kids and now Beth and I over a two week time period.

    Sick Sick Sick…

    February 15th, 2010 by Beth

So I thought it was about time to update the site on what has been going on around here these last few days. Things have been a little crazy to say the least. It all kind of started a week ago this last Friday with Kiley (2/5). She had a cold starting back before Connor was born, but just couldn’t get rid of it. During that time, every once in a while, she would wake up during the night and throw up. We just thought this was from the mucus in her throat or from coughing and gagging (which it very well may have been). From Friday night until the following Wednesday, Kiley did this every night except Monday night. So by Thursday, I called the Doctor.

Meanwhile, little Connor was coming down with a cold, having a stuffy nose starting this last Tuesday then progressing with a cough. When I made the appointment with the Dr. for Kiley, I made one for Connor too. So at the Dr. Thursday afternoon, Connor was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis and Kiley was given an antibiotic to get her over whatever bug she had once and for all. We were told to watch Connor closely because he might get worse before he gets better. Needless to say, that is exactly what happened.

So Thursday night, Connor was wheezing and struggling to breathe. I called the Dr. and they wanted us to come in to the office. As soon as she took one look at him, she said that we needed to go to the hospital. We were admitted to Good Shepherd Hospital right away. Connor did very well, he perked up really quickly with breathing treatments. We were there for 24 hours with a little bit of oxygen for the first few hours then only breathing treatments every 4 hours. We went home Friday night with a nebulizer for home to do the treatments. Connor did fine during the night and we had a follow up appointment at 11 the next morning.

Meanwhile… while we were at the hospital on Friday, Matt dropped the girls off at daycare so that he could be here with us. We got a call letting us know that 5 kids had called in sick with the stomach flu and they were closing day care until Monday. UGH!!! So, Matt went and picked the girls up and I was left here with Connor by myself. Debbie came to pick up the girls after work so that Matt could come up here. The chaos continued when Ella threw up in the car on the way to Debbie’s. UGH!!! So, Matt turned around to go home, but Debbie wanted to get the girls to her house because we were bringing Connor home that night and he couldn’t be around Ella. Thank God Debbie kept them! We couldn’t thank her enough for that.

So we came home late Friday night like I said and everything seemed fine. We did all of his breathing treatments during the night and tried to get a little sleep. Our appt was at 11:15 and Connor was due for a breathing treatment at 11:30 so we brought the stuff with us. Ella only threw up 4 times or so and Kiley didn’t get sick that night at all. We waited forever for the Dr. and were way past the 4 hour mark for the treatment, but the Dr. took one look at Connor and asked why we were not still at the hospital. We gave him the breathing treatment, but his O2 sats were still at 84% (for those of you that don’t know, that is not good). So, back to the hospital we went.

Here is where the chaos really begins. Connor and I have been here at the hospital since Saturday and Matt has been home with the girls. He was able to bring my stuff back here before meeting Debbie back at the house with the girls. Kiley started not feeling well Saturday with a cough and runny nose. She also started with a fever Saturday night. Awesome!! Connor has been doing ok now. He has had his ups and downs, been on oxygen the whole time we have been here and had his breathing treatments. Finally the Dr. that was here yesterday, ordered deep suctioning which I had been asking about since Auntie Jessy told me about it. That seemed to help a lot. He is doing much better now. He is eating better, more alert and just more comfortable. They took him off of oxygen this morning and he seems to be doing really well so far. We have to stay here for a while off of oxygen just to make sure he keeps his Sats up. So far, so good (my fingers are crossed)! We are really hoping to go home tonight, but know that he if he needs to be here one more night, we will get through it.

Yesterday, my parents and John and Jill made a bunch of food and brought it up here for Matt to have at the house. This was a big help, and we greatly appreciate it. It has been hard for all of them because they can’t really help with the girls or come up here. My mom can’t be anywhere near any of these kids right now. It is just too much of a risk. And We can’t risk Jakey getting RSV because he would still get really sick at his age. RSV really only affects kids…the younger the worse it is. In a healthy adult, it is really only a minor cold. Debbie has really been one of the only people that could help us during all of this and we appreciate everything she has done more than we can say!!!

Today, thankfully, Allison and Donnie are going to go to our house to hang out with the girls while Matt comes here for a little while. We greatly appreciate their help as well. It is really hard to be here by myself for many reasons. As you all know, I am not one who is ever by herself for very long, gets bored really easily and can’t stay in my house for long, let alone in this hospital room. I am going a little nutty in here. Not to mention missing my girls unbelievably!!! I haven’t seen them since Thursday night except for on iChat. Matt has been great both with the girls and having to be back and forth here as much as possible. I know it has been really hard on him too.

I know this is a really long post. I was trying to be as detailed as possible so that you all could understand everything that has been going on. Right now, we are just hoping to get home ASAP with a healthy baby, to avoid anyone else getting the stomach flu and to get Kiley bug better at home. Her fever did break yesterday so that is good. It has been a trying time, to say the least, but thanks to the help from our family and some inner strength that we have found, we are getting through it. It makes me really understand what some of the families that I work with have gone through with sick kids. This doesn’t even compare, but is a small taste of what they go through.

Hopefully we will have a better week this week!!!!!
