    Sick Sick Sick…

    Monday, February 15th, 2010

So I thought it was about time to update the site on what has been going on around here these last few days. Things have been a little crazy to say the least. It all kind of started a week ago this last Friday with Kiley (2/5). She had a cold starting back before Connor was born, but just couldn’t get rid of it. During that time, every once in a while, she would wake up during the night and throw up. We just thought this was from the mucus in her throat or from coughing and gagging (which it very well may have been). From Friday night until the following Wednesday, Kiley did this every night except Monday night. So by Thursday, I called the Doctor.

Meanwhile, little Connor was coming down with a cold, having a stuffy nose starting this last Tuesday then progressing with a cough. When I made the appointment with the Dr. for Kiley, I made one for Connor too. So at the Dr. Thursday afternoon, Connor was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis and Kiley was given an antibiotic to get her over whatever bug she had once and for all. We were told to watch Connor closely because he might get worse before he gets better. Needless to say, that is exactly what happened.

So Thursday night, Connor was wheezing and struggling to breathe. I called the Dr. and they wanted us to come in to the office. As soon as she took one look at him, she said that we needed to go to the hospital. We were admitted to Good Shepherd Hospital right away. Connor did very well, he perked up really quickly with breathing treatments. We were there for 24 hours with a little bit of oxygen for the first few hours then only breathing treatments every 4 hours. We went home Friday night with a nebulizer for home to do the treatments. Connor did fine during the night and we had a follow up appointment at 11 the next morning.

Meanwhile… while we were at the hospital on Friday, Matt dropped the girls off at daycare so that he could be here with us. We got a call letting us know that 5 kids had called in sick with the stomach flu and they were closing day care until Monday. UGH!!! So, Matt went and picked the girls up and I was left here with Connor by myself. Debbie came to pick up the girls after work so that Matt could come up here. The chaos continued when Ella threw up in the car on the way to Debbie’s. UGH!!! So, Matt turned around to go home, but Debbie wanted to get the girls to her house because we were bringing Connor home that night and he couldn’t be around Ella. Thank God Debbie kept them! We couldn’t thank her enough for that.

So we came home late Friday night like I said and everything seemed fine. We did all of his breathing treatments during the night and tried to get a little sleep. Our appt was at 11:15 and Connor was due for a breathing treatment at 11:30 so we brought the stuff with us. Ella only threw up 4 times or so and Kiley didn’t get sick that night at all. We waited forever for the Dr. and were way past the 4 hour mark for the treatment, but the Dr. took one look at Connor and asked why we were not still at the hospital. We gave him the breathing treatment, but his O2 sats were still at 84% (for those of you that don’t know, that is not good). So, back to the hospital we went.

Here is where the chaos really begins. Connor and I have been here at the hospital since Saturday and Matt has been home with the girls. He was able to bring my stuff back here before meeting Debbie back at the house with the girls. Kiley started not feeling well Saturday with a cough and runny nose. She also started with a fever Saturday night. Awesome!! Connor has been doing ok now. He has had his ups and downs, been on oxygen the whole time we have been here and had his breathing treatments. Finally the Dr. that was here yesterday, ordered deep suctioning which I had been asking about since Auntie Jessy told me about it. That seemed to help a lot. He is doing much better now. He is eating better, more alert and just more comfortable. They took him off of oxygen this morning and he seems to be doing really well so far. We have to stay here for a while off of oxygen just to make sure he keeps his Sats up. So far, so good (my fingers are crossed)! We are really hoping to go home tonight, but know that he if he needs to be here one more night, we will get through it.

Yesterday, my parents and John and Jill made a bunch of food and brought it up here for Matt to have at the house. This was a big help, and we greatly appreciate it. It has been hard for all of them because they can’t really help with the girls or come up here. My mom can’t be anywhere near any of these kids right now. It is just too much of a risk. And We can’t risk Jakey getting RSV because he would still get really sick at his age. RSV really only affects kids…the younger the worse it is. In a healthy adult, it is really only a minor cold. Debbie has really been one of the only people that could help us during all of this and we appreciate everything she has done more than we can say!!!

Today, thankfully, Allison and Donnie are going to go to our house to hang out with the girls while Matt comes here for a little while. We greatly appreciate their help as well. It is really hard to be here by myself for many reasons. As you all know, I am not one who is ever by herself for very long, gets bored really easily and can’t stay in my house for long, let alone in this hospital room. I am going a little nutty in here. Not to mention missing my girls unbelievably!!! I haven’t seen them since Thursday night except for on iChat. Matt has been great both with the girls and having to be back and forth here as much as possible. I know it has been really hard on him too.

I know this is a really long post. I was trying to be as detailed as possible so that you all could understand everything that has been going on. Right now, we are just hoping to get home ASAP with a healthy baby, to avoid anyone else getting the stomach flu and to get Kiley bug better at home. Her fever did break yesterday so that is good. It has been a trying time, to say the least, but thanks to the help from our family and some inner strength that we have found, we are getting through it. It makes me really understand what some of the families that I work with have gone through with sick kids. This doesn’t even compare, but is a small taste of what they go through.

Hopefully we will have a better week this week!!!!!

    3 Weeks!!

    Friday, February 5th, 2010

I can hardly believe that our little Con man is three weeks old today!! It has been a great 3 weeks and has gone by SO fast!! He is growing like a weed! He was already up to ten pounds as of this past Wednesday. Connor is a really good baby. Sunday night he even slept 6 and a half hours straight. He of course hasn’t done that again, but I am hoping that that was a sign that he will be a good sleeper eventually. Last night was a little rough as he was up for several hours for no reason in the middle of the night. If he wasn’t so stinkin cute, I might have been upset.  :)

The girls have gotten into a good routine of getting up and getting out of the house with Daddy in the morning to go to day care. It has been a little weird to be home without them here, but they really need the routine and would be so bored here at home. I have been enjoying my time alone with my little guy! He is so sweet and cuddly! I think he is a momma’s boy already! We only stayed home all day Tuesday, but have done some running around the rest of the week. I am not one to stay in the house.

Wednesday night we had the Raders family over for a visit which was really fun! we can’t wait for the arrival of their little girl. Yesterday, Connor and I went over to Grandma’s house for a visit with Auntie Marsha, Savannah, Landon, Nana, Papa, and Grandma. We had a great lunch and enjoyed our visit. Happy Birthday to Auntie Marsha! Today, Connor and I had lunch with Grandma, Jill, and Jakey as well as did a little bit of shopping. Connor isn’t as great of a shopper as the girls are.

This weekend we are busy with getting our taxes done and haircuts for Ella and I tomorrow, and a small get together here for the Superbowl on Sunday. Should be a great time. I am rooting for the Saints as I am a Drew Brees fan from my days at Purdue. I am sure we will have many  more pictures to post after the weekend.

I can’t believe I only have 3 more weeks at home. It is going to go so fast!!

    Disney on Ice

    Disney on Ice

Ok, so the past two weeks have flown by and now I’m back into the office bright and early tomorrow. The past two weeks have been amazing and have let us really come together as a family with our new little bundle of joy! We got to do a lot of cool stuff as a family the past two weeks and Connor fits right in! Be sure to check out all the photos and videos @Flickr!

This past weekend we had Grandpa Lee and Grandma Sue over to celebrate Christmas on Friday night. The girls got some really cool gifts that included an Air Hockey Table! It was a great night to celebrate the holidays. Check out the photos here!

On Saturday, we had a few visitors in the morning, dance class and the girls took off with Aunt Lori and Grandma Debbie to see Disney on Ice! The girls had a great time and even called to ask for to borrow my Credit Card… ha ha! The snow cones were $15 bucks! Check out the photos from Saturday here!

Today, we went out to lunch with John, Jill, Jake and Grandpa Mark. Ella is with her dad today for a quick visit and will be back tomorrow morning. Now, I think it’s off to the store to get some last minute stuff for this week and then we will watch the Grammys!

You should notice some new enhancements to the site with the sidebar. I’ve added a widget that pulls in the most recent 15 photos from flickr! It’s a nice little touch to the site and I’m always looking for more ideas so let me know! Also, added Tag You’re It to the sidebar so that you can filter all the posts by ones you have been tagged in! Have fun finding all the posts and reliving the memories that we have shared together since the blog started!

    Sunday!

    Monday, January 18th, 2010

We just wanted to make a quick video post from Sunday! We had a great day with little man. He didn’t get bugged at all today and was able to sleep. A lot of family and friends came out today and it was good to see everyone.

Grandma Debbie and Grandma Marsha did the kid swap in the hospital parking lot. The girls were sleeping and it was good to see them for a few minutes. Ella convinced Grandma Debbie her coat was reversible and its so not. Ha ha. We were able to iChat with the girls again today. Beth and I even talked to John and Jill for a little bit.

As for Connor, he did have a good day but his eyes are a little swollen. You can’t see it in the professional photos that were taken at the hospital but in my photos you can. The dr said it could be a reaction from the ointment they put on his eyes after he was born. Hopefully, he will wake up tomorrow and they will be better. As I was writing this, Mommy’s milk came in and he wasn’t ready for it while nursing a minute ago. First spit up event!

Check out @Flickr for more photos from today!

    Connor’s Birthday!

    Friday, January 15th, 2010

Connor Lee Saip arrived today at 12:46pm. He is 8lbs 4 oz and 20 inches long. We are so blessed to have him here with us now! Thank you to everyone for their help today and this weekend. We are grateful for everyone’s help with Ella and Kiley! It’s strange not having the girls with us this weekend but it’s what we have to do so we will make the best of it.

Beth and baby are doing great right now and he is nursing at the moment. He has also been sleeping in his crib as opposed to on Mommy or me. We want him to be able to sleep in his crib so that we don’t have him in bed with us unless it’s necessary. We learned from Kiley Bug!

It was great to see everyone who made it out today and look forward to seeing more people this weekend! Check out the posted pics here for a glimpse of Connor Lee Saip!

    Kiley’s 2nd Birthday!

    Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Today we are going to have some family over for Kiley’s 2nd Birthday! She turns 2 on January 18th but with Connor coming this week we wanted to make sure we had a special day for Kiley Bug! These past two years have gone by way too quickly! She’s doing her best to keep up with her Big Sister everyday and doing a great job at it. Some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth now is hilarious! Yesterday morning and today was all about Face Wipes! Too Cute!

Ella is home from her dad’s house and we are getting ready for the party. We have to run off to Wal-Mart to get some sundae toppings and ice cream, make sure Kiley gets a nap in and then prep for the party. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

Hopefully, when everyone visits the site they will notice the new look. Instead of going with a baby boy theme, we went with an overall new look that suits Team Saip! We are going to put a focus more on video and photos on the new site. Look for additions coming soon plus up to date information from the hospital on Connor Lee Saip’s birth :)
