We had a blast on Saturday at Mystic Waters in Des Plaines with Auntie Jill, Uncle John, Jakey, and Grandma Debbie. It was such a fun place for all of us! The kids really loved the splash park, the slides, the zero depth pool, and the lazy river. Ella went on her first big water slide, and wasn’t a huge fan. The big kids had a lot of fun too going down the big slides, the shoot slides, and relaxing on the lazy river. I haven’t been to a water park in years, and I don’t want to wait that long to go again!! The kids were all exhausted, but didn’t completely crash in the car on the way home like we thought. Saturday night we had Grandma Debbie, Grandpa Mark, and Grandma Marsha over for a little BBQ. John and Jill were supposed to come too, but Jakey had enough with the water park and needed his bed.
So we thought the kids would all sleep really well so we would get a good nights sleep on Saturday night. Boy we were mistaken on that one. Connor woke up around 1 and I could hear in his throat that he had croup. He wasn’t coughing too bad, but I took him into the bathroom an put the shower on for steam. We gave him a nebulizer treatment and he went back to sleep sounding ok. He woke up again at 3:15 coughing really bad. We gave him another nebulizer treatment and did the steam thing again. This time when he fell back asleep, he was breathing really loud and didn’t sound good at all. I had him sleep right by me. At about 5:15 or so he woke up again. This time he sounded aweful!! We tried the nebulizer, but he was just getting so upset because of the coughing. We tried the steam, but he seemed to be gasping for air. I knew we needed to go to the hospital at that point. With the girls sleeping, and not wanting to get in the car with him by myself at that point, we called 911. The paramedics came and quickly assessed him. He was breathing hard, heart rate high, coughing, and retracting, but his O2 sats were ok. I got into the ambulance with him and off to the new Sherman Hospital we went. He was such a good boy through the whole ordeal. He even smiled at the paramedics in the ambulance. They were great at the hospital too. Connor was charming all the ladies with his big smile. They gave him a steroid and a saline breathing treatment which seemed to help pretty quickly. Even though he didn’t feel so good, he still managed to seem happy. That was until they put in an IV and put him in a torture chamber for a chest x-ray. The Dr. came in to let me know that he had croup (of course), bronchiolitis, and the start of pneumonia. He gave us an antibiotic and a steroid and sent us home.
Matt and the girls came to pick us up, and we drove home in a huge thunder storm. We were so exhausted that we just laid around all day watching movies. I got to take a little nap with Connor in the afternoon which was much needed. We didn’t get anything done around the house like I had wanted to, but oh well.
Connor had a much better night last night. We were nervous because sometimes the second night is worse than the first, but he did ok. Hopefully we are on the mend and no one else will get sick now. It might be a crazy week this week too. We don’t have day care as Lisa had her baby on Saturday! Congrats to Lisa and Jeff on the birth of little Xander. We can’t wait to meet him! The kids are all over the place this week, but it should be a fun change for them. It just might make us crazy getting them to and from where they need to be while we work.
