    Fun in the Sun!

    Sunday, July 10th, 2011

The past two weekends have been HOT HOT HOT! I’m not a huge fan of this weather but we have made the best of it with time in the pool and cooking out with friends and family.

We spent time last weekend at Aunt Eve’s house in the pool, went out to Bristol, WI for a visit with The Elliott’s and then spent time this weekend with Allison and Donnie while they were in town. It’s always a blast spending time with everyone!

Here is a great photo from today!

    4 Day Weekend!

    Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

It’s Day 2 of our 4 day weekend and we are having a blast! Yesterday, the kids and I spent time with Aunt Lori, Luke and Grandma Debbie at Dana’s Pool! It was before it got too hot so it was great for the kids. We had a quick lunch, got Connor’s nap in and Grandma took the kids to see Mr. Popper’s Penguins! We all had a great time!

Today, we got up early to find out Kiley’s dance class was canceled! We went to Kohls instead and bought some running shoes. We saved more than we spent by going to Kohls and got two pairs of shoes! Can’t wait to use them tonight for the first time!

Beth is off to get her haircut and then we are heading to the Crystal Lake Festival with some friends of Beth’s! Should be a good time!

Hope everyone is enjoying their time off!!!

    Friday Night Lights

    Friday, June 24th, 2011

Friday Night Lights Since taking the train, I’ve been getting into reading some more and have had the chance to finish about 5 books now. I’m going to start having posts about the books I read and my take on them.

Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger wasn’t my favorite book I’ve read recently. I feel it could have been better if it focused more on the actual 1988 football season of the Permian Panthers. Instead it spent a lot of the book about the town, Odessa, in which the team plays. The town’s main focus is High School Football and the books spends a lot of time discussing the culture, history, etc.

H.G. Bissinger spent an entire year in Odessa to write this book and I’m sure it was a great experience. I just didn’t feel the players, coaches and actual games were given enough exposure to keep my attention. The book did receive a lot of praise from ESPN and other media outlets. It has spawned a movie (that I can’t recall if I’ve seen) and a tv series. I’m thinking that I would like the tv series more than the book.

That’s my quick take! Check back soon for more updates!

    Community Service

    Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Yesterday, I had a great day at work! Digitas closed the office and threw a carnival for the kids at the Off The Street Club in Chicago. Over 300 employees went to the club to put on the carnival!

This is the second event that I’ve gotten to spend the day with the kids since working at Digitas. It’s always a great time and the kids are super nice and fun to be around.

I spent the day capturing video and photos of the event. It was awesome watching the kids play the games, running around with employees and enjoying it all. There was a relay race that the kids really got into. It was a four lane race with five parts. There was a jump rope portion, spinning around with your head on a baseball bat, riding a scooter, a hula hoop part and a sprint. The kids really got into it and there were a few spills after the bat spinning.

Face painting was a hit and so was the photo booth! Kids got to dress up in costumes and take funny snapshots with their friends. I was able to play knockout and 21 with the kids too. I haven’t played basketball in a long time (not since high school I bet or when Ben and I would school Dad in the driveway)!

Overall, it was a great experience and I can’t wait to do it again!
